What: The Greensboro Children’s Museum strives to be one of the best children’s museums in the country through the addition of three major exhibits: a one-of-a-kind outdoor play plaza, indoor winding river water feature, and kid-friendly technology center. Reaching Greater Heights aims to raise $3 million through support from local foundations, community businesses and friends of the Museum.

Wows: Reaching Greater Heights provides a lot of wows including:

  • Two Neptun XXL Climbers, 30 feet tall and capable of holding 250 children each
  • The only two side-by-side Neptun XXL Climbers connected by a suspended net tunnel in the world
  • Winding water feature with 10 experiential learning stations for toddlers up to teens
  • Robotics and coding exhibits
  • Redesigned GCM entrance to better accommodate school groups, community groups and families including a bus drop-off, shade and rain structure, and automatic doors

Why: This expansion will:

  • Create even more excitement for families visiting downtown Greensboro
  • Add a new, bright, artistic, modern landmark to the downtown landscape
  • Increase opportunities for active play and learning
  • Create additional play opportunities for families with ¬†children of varying ages and interests
  • Increase traffic to the Church Street area

When: Right now!

  • Site work is underway
  • Climbers are on the way from Germany now
  • Outdoor play plaza should be complete by start of 2017
  • Water feature and tech center construction to begin in 2017
