GCM Playgroup

Pay at admission desk on arrival or purchase tickets online. Pre-registration is encouraged.

Connect with other parents and caregivers of young children (Infants, Toddlers, and Preschoolers) at the Greensboro Children’s Museum each week for a standing playdate!  Meet a Museum educator for a kick-off activity and then go exploring, playing, and learning in the Museum together.  GCM Playgroup meets every Thursday at 3:30pm from September through May.

Baby & Me Yoga (5 Weeks - 18 Months)

Ages: 0 – 18 months
Cost: $17 per class

This 45-minute class is designed for both baby and caregiver. We spend the first part of class stretching, breathing, and moving for you. The second part of class is singing and moving playfully with your baby yogi. This class has a wide age range (5 Weeks - 18 Months). 

Class fee includes 6 sessions with admission to the Greensboro Children’s Museum for the participant and one adult on class days.

Mini Yogis (3 – 5 Years)

Creative and fun, these classes plant the seeds of yoga to stimulate imagination, maintain flexibility and develop conscious breathing. Our unique approach combines yoga poses with rhythm, literacy, games and mindfulness techniques. Drop-off program recommended for ages 3-5 years old.

Toddler & Me Yoga (18 months– 3 Years)

This class is for toddlers and caregivers to enjoy the benefits of yoga together. This class gives parents the opportunity to see how their child interacts with other children and the teacher. Animated poses, music and props help toddlers develop good listening skills from the start!

Little Yogis (5 – 8 Years) & Youthful Flow (8-12 Years)

We are joining Little Yogis (ages 5-8) and Youthful Flow (ages 8-12) for a combined kids yoga class! Our Youthful Flow students will learn to serve as role models for our Little Yogis creating a dynamic kids yoga community. Our class is designed to provide a place to have FUN and gain an introduction to the fundamentals of yoga. Students will learn breathing techniques, postures, and relaxation tools. Empower your child with self-confidence and the skills necessary in coping with stress. This yoga practice will enhance physical and mental performance needed in school, sports, extracurricular activities, and life!

Each week, we'll meet in The Edible Schoolyard Kitchen Classroom to combine children’s literature and food. Using the story as inspiration, your kids will use fresh ingredients to create kid-friendly snacks they'll love making and eating.

This series will focus on the culinary application of herbs. Classes will meet in the garden to learn about growing conditions, harvesting techniques, and health benefits. Then, we'll move to the kitchen to learn how to prepare the herbs for use as food or tea. Each participant will leave with fresh herbs, samples, and recipes.

Teen Cooking Class: Homemade, Hand-rolled Pasta

Friday, February 24, 2017, 5:30-7:30PM 
Ages: 12-15 years old
Cost: GCM Members $30 | Nonmembers $30

Learn to make fresh pasts dough and create classic shapes by hand and machine. We'll enjoy the pasta with a homemade sauce.

Messes & Masterpieces (3-5 years)

Tuesdays, February 28 - April 4, 2017, 3:30 - 4:30pm
Cost: GCM Members $60 | Nonmembers $72 Class fee includes admission to the Greensboro Children’s Museum for the participant and one adult on the day of the class. 

From Michelangelo to Mondrian, we’ll familiarize ourselves with great works of art and try our hands at mimicking the masters. We will explore elements of art such as line, color, and texture. Come ready to learn and, of course, get a bit messy!

Put a new spin on pizza with pizza pinwheels. We'll learn to make dough from scratch and customize our pizza creations with a variety of toppings. To compete the meal, we'll prepare a leafy green salad and homemade dressing.

Adult Cooking Class: Traditional Irish Favorites

Thursday, March 16, 2017, 6:30-8:30PM
Ages: 21+
Cost: $60 GCM Members | $65 Non-Members

Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with Michael Harkenreader, Chef de Cuisine of Undercurrent Restaurant. Class will begin with Irish soda bread and cheese. Then, Chef Michael will discuss steps to braising and roasting corned beef and as well as guide us through hands-on opportunities to complete a classic Irish meal. 

On the menu: Irish soda bread & cheese, corned beef, boxty (potato pancakes), colcannon (mashed potatoes with cabbage & onions)

Chef Bio: Michael graduated with his Associates of Culinary Arts from the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York in 2001. He has worked at Undercurrent for over eight years and is currently, Chef de Cuisine. Michael enjoys cooking food from scratch, utilizing local ingredients to create classic and creative meals.

Kids Cooking Class: Pedal-Powered Smoothies
